Alexander Swete
was born in 1964 in Bregenz, Austria.
He studied at the Conservatory of Bregenz with Georg Gaupp-Berghausen and at the Academy of Music in Vienna with Eugenia Kanthou and Konrad Ragossnig.
He finished his studies with Distinction and received the Special Prize for Artistic Merit by the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research.
Alexander Swete is Prizewinner at several international guitar competitions such as Havana, Cuba 1988 and ARD competition in Munich, Germany 1989.
1991 he was awarded the First Prize in the "Concours International de Guitare" in Paris.
Successful concert tours have led him to all parts of Europe ( Madrid, Paris, London Vienna) as well to USA ( 1998 solo-recital at Carnegie Hall, New York), Australia (Sydney, Melbourne), Russia, North-Afrika and Cuba. He has been invited to major international music festivals including Salzburg Festival, "Wiener Festwochen", "Schubertiade Feldkirch", "Bregenzer Festspiele" and all major international Guitar festivals.
He has also made numerous recordings for radio and television, including ORF Vienna, WDR Colonge, BR Munich, NDR Hamburg, BBC London, Radio France, Radio Espana, SBS Sydney, Australian Cabletelevision, Tokyo Cable Television, and CD´s with different musiciens and styles. The first CD of the complete edition of the Flute/Guitar works of Mauro Giuliani was presented recently. An Astor Piazzolla CD is in preparation.
Performances with several orchestras including the "Württembergisches Kammerorchester", "Vorarlberger Symphonieorchester", "Orquesta Nacional de Cuba", "Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz München" and "Lublin Philharmony.
Additionally he gives masterclasses and sits on juries at international guitar competitions.
His repertoire combines all kind of styles from the Renaissance to contemporary music, including all important Concertos and a large number of ensemble works.
Alexander Swete teaches in Vienna at the University of Music.
